Narcissistic personality: grandiosity, fragility and the people around it

The word narcissist has been worn down by internet argument until it means little more than someone who behaved badly. Clinically it describes something narrower and sadder: a self that can only stay upright with constant external propping, and a set of defences that protect it at other people's expense.
