When does being conscientious become a trap?
A task cannot be finished because it can still be improved. Delegating feels unsafe because another person's method seems careless. Rest creates guilt, and relationships become arguments about standards, details or the one correct way to proceed.
The pattern can look successful from outside while costing flexibility, time and closeness. Because the rules often feel sensible, the problem may seem to be everyone else's lack of care.
How is OCPD different from OCD?
OCPD centres on enduring perfectionism, control and rigidity that often feel justified or necessary. OCD involves unwanted obsessions and compulsions performed to reduce distress. A person can have either condition or both.
Assessment considers work style, decision-making, delegation, morality, emotional control, relationships, intrusive thoughts and rituals so the treatment target is accurate.
How does therapy loosen rigid standards without lowering your values?
Schema therapy examines standards, punishment and the fear attached to mistakes. CBT behavioural experiments test what happens when a task is good enough, another person chooses the method, or uncertainty remains unresolved.
Work also addresses emotional awareness and the interpersonal effect of correction, control and withheld warmth. The goal is flexible effectiveness, not carelessness.
What does progress look like with perfectionism and control?
Progress may mean completing work without endless revision, delegating without taking over, tolerating a different method and allowing rest without earning it first. Relationships may become less organised around correction and defence.
